Some Music I Liked This Week

Japandroids

Japandroids released their latest album, Near to the Wild Heart of Life, a few weeks ago. It's right in line with the solid rock music you'd expect from the duo, except with a little more polish. No word yet on whether or not the Vancouver Canucks will change their entrance music from "The House That Heaven Built" to something from the new album.

Cloud Nothings

Here's another band who you thought you had pegged, but lead-singer Dylan Baldi is out to prove you wrong (or just try something different?). According to Baldi, "This record is like my version of new age music. It’s supposed to be inspiring.” Cloud Nothings' Life Without Sound is out now and thankfully it's not a record without sound. That would be odd.

Mac DeMarco

As much as I like this new song from Mac DeMarco, I might enjoy that skeleton creep, creep, creepin' across the wavy, sketchy backdrop even more. If the skeleton doesn't suit you, you can listen to "This Old Dog" while watching a dog walk the other way.

Dawes

"Try not to get upset / Everything is fine / Hey, it's not that big a deal / We're all gonna die." I'm glad I could use Dawes to uplift you on Friday. If you were at their show in Sioux Falls on Wednesday, you might feel a little different. Those boys know how to put together a set.
