Angel Olsen is releasing a new album, My Woman, in September. And based on her lead single and this track, I imagine that a chance encounter with a silver wig was her creative spark. I like to think that she placed it atop her head and wondered what kind of music that person would write given the chance. The answer: shut up listen.
I've listened to a number of singles from the new Japanese Breakfast album, Pyschopomp, and their lead single, "In Heaven," won out as my favorite track. There's something about the vocal quality that brings me back to the '90s. It's like a cross between "Linger" and something I can't quite put my finger on. If you figure it out, let me know in the comments.
I've been sleeping on posting a Whitney track until the moment is right. And you can't tell me that their '70s soft-rock vibe isn't perfect for Fourth of July weekend. Whitney is made up of a couple former members of Smith Westerns; the ones who aren't Cullen Omori.
