Some Music I Liked This Week

Margo Price

It warms my heart every time I hear a new country song come out of Nashville that features a classic country sound. Margo Price will be the first country artist to release an album on Jack White's Third Man Records. Midwest Farmer's Daughter is out later this month. This tune strides along at just the right pace.

Kwesi Foraes

"Devils Child" starts out so bare, that when the tambourine comes in at :23, it seems excessive. This is the opening cut to Kwesi Foraes' new 27 EP. I'm intrigued to see where he takes us next.

The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die

As a professional advertiser, I wouldn't advise a fourteen-letter band name. As a music fan, I don't really care, as long as the music's interesting. Thankfully for The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, they fall into the latter category. Long Live Happy Birthday is out later this month.

Rostam

You probably know Rostam Batmanglij from his work in Vampire Weekend. Back in January, Rostam announced that he's leaving VW to focus on producing and, judging by some newly release material, his solo career. He shows a lot of restraint on this track, but I found it satisfying to not be able to predict where it was going next.
